ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE TO FIGHT FOR VERIFIED VOTING AT THE NATIONAL, STATE, AND LOCAL LEVEL

*It is time to focus at the local level now*

COUNTY LEVEL ACTIONS:

Contact your county election officials

1.Find out if your election officials are considering buying or using DREs (paperless electronic voting machines, touchscreen, dial or stylus).

2. Find out when meetings are. Attend board meetings, ask for some time on the agenda, contact members just as in the case of the legislature. Let them know that you do not want paperless voting machines used in your county. HAVA does not require the use of DREs, and the ones available do not provide a voter verified paper trail. None have been certified in our state.

3. Urge your election officials to wait until the EAC sets proper standards for the machines, otherwise they face the possiblity of having to replace equipment again.

The current offering of machines have too many problems with them to be entrusted with our votes. Better machines are on the way, and will only become available if we insist on it.

For more effective action, please join the lobbying campaign of NC Coalition for Verifiable Voting.  To participate, notify us at ncverifiablevoting@yahoo.com who your Senator and Representative, or Representatives, are.   Find your representative here: http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/GIS/Representation/Who_Represents_Me/Who_Represents_Me.html

Alert: Help us deliver "Myth Breakers" to all 100 Election Directors in North Carolina. There are 40 counties that already have DREs, it is critical that we deliver "M.B." to the 60 counties that may be considering trying or buying DREs. "Myth Breakers" is available for free download (in pdf format) at the website www.votersunite.org
