North Carolina Elections - What is Wrong?
VOTING BY MACHINE VIOLATES YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE and to have your vote counted properly. Elections must be fair and open in order to have integrity. Voting by machine introduces concealment and invites deception. With electronic voting, private company programmers are the ones counting the votes, they can be and sometimes are felons and foreigner nationals.
UNDUE INFLUENCE: The key decision makers who choose Election Equipment in our state are also members of a private organization called "The Election Center". This organization accepts funding from voting machine vendors. This is a conflict of interest. See our page on "The Election Center" . Our SBOE refuses to certify federally certified voting machines that DO create a Voter Verified Paper Ballot. See our page on "Law and Status"
BRIBERY: See how a voting machine vendor gave at least $200,000 in bribes to a NC County Election Director while also selling him about $5 Million in paperless electronic voting equipment. See our page on "Bribery"
ELECTRONIC VOTING MELTDOWNS: See some documented instances of electronic voting meltdowns in North Carolina. Includes problems with paperless and optical scanning vote tabulation.*Note - at least with optical scanners you still have your paper ballot as a back-up. For problems during the years 2000 - 2003 see our page titled "NC Problems" See our "News" page for this year's (2004) election problems in the news.

WHO WE ARE:
N.C. Voter is a non-partisan organization of citizens from across the state who are very concerned that North Carolina is moving forward in with the implementation of DRE's (electronic voting machines) that are not secure, not reliable and not voter verifiable. We call for improved security and increased transparency in all election systems used in North Carolina.
Our focus is to inform the public, the media and government officials, both elected and appointed, about the dangerous shortcomings, the problems and the potential legal ramifications surrounding this issue.

FEDERAL STANDARDS FOR ELECTRONIC VOTING HAVE NOT BEEN SET. The EAC, once fully functional would set standards for Voting Machines, including National Certification of the machines. Until then, election officials only have the election machine salesmen to advise them.
BECAUSE N.C. STATE LAW REQUIRES THAT ALL PUNCH-CARD AND LEVER MACHINES BE BANNED BY JANUARY 2006. Election officials feel pressured to replace their machines. GS 163-165.4A
The following counties would be directly affected: Cabarrus, Duplin, Forsyth, Onslow, Vance, Watauga Chowan, Hoke, Scotland, Swain
THE LAWS MUST BE CHANGED: N.C. STATE LAWS AND POLICIES ARE PUSHING US TOWARDS PAPERLESS E-VOTING. THE N.C. State Board of Elections has not certified any touchscreen machines or other electronic voting machines that print a voter verified paper ballot. Counties can only choose from machines certified by the state. See how the NC Board of Elections has avoided certifying machines that are ADA compatible and also produce a Voter Verified Paper Ballot. See our page on "Law and Status" . This is exactly what "The Election Center" advocates. | |
